@Yuvalne @luana y'all got it quite a bit upside-down. The asterism was an idea by a group of people here (started by me and two friends) specifically to counteract Meta using a proprietary icon for Threads to represent the fedi. This thing has nothing directly to do with Unicode & was not at all related to X using the math symbol (that also happens to be in Unicode)
The whole reason that its nice that ⁂ is in Unicode is that we don't need to do any additional work to display it everywhere
@luana how is the asterism corporate? it has been a grass roots effort to get this symbol to where it is recognized as it is today. it came from issues with the :fediverse: symbol not working without the rainbow color and there not being any good solution to solving this. there are many cases (like this one) where a multicolored symbol simply does not work
